The Gaiety Theatre

The Gaiety Theatre

The Gaiety Theatre is home to Irish pantomime and is located on South King Street, just off Grafton Street in the heart of Dublin city. As Dublin’s longest established theatre in continuous production, The Gaiety Theatre triumphantly maintains its presence as the city’s premier venue for popular musical shows, opera, ballet, dance and drama.

Also known as “The Grand Old Lady”, this iconic theatre has been welcoming theatre goers for over 140 years. The most popular event that takes place at the Gaiety Theatre is the annual Christmas pantomime which has been hosted every year since 1874. Some of the great shows that haven taken to the stage at The Gaiety Theatre include Shakespeare’s Richard II, Anthony and Cleopatra, Julius Caesar and Hamlet, Maura Laverty’s perennially popular Liffey Lane and Tolka Row and MacLíammóir’s own romantic comedies “Where Stars Walk” and “Ill Met by Moonlight”.

One of the main features and an attraction in itself are the bronze handprints set into the pavement outside the theatre. These handprints include Brendan Grace, John B Keane and Luciano Pavarotti. If you are attending a show at the Gaiety Theatre then why not have dinner in our restaurant before you go? Our restaurant offers great food in friendly surroundings with an evening menu offering a great selection of dishes both Irish and European.
