This October the Dublin city marathon takes place in the capital. The marathon takes participants on a 26.2 miles or 42 km route through Dublin city beginning at Fitzwilliam St Upper and finishing at Merrion Square.
Participants will need to collect their race pack and race number from the Dublin Marathon EXPO in the main hall of the RDS on Friday 28th of October from 12pm – 7pm or on Saturday the 29th of October from 9am – 7pm.
The Dublin Marathon began in 1980 and 1,420 finished the race from the 2,100 that entered. The winner of the first marathon was Dick Hooper in a time of 2:16, Dick went on to win the marathon 3 times.
As the Dublin Marathon enters its 36th year the number of entries has increased to over 13,000 participants with over 8,000 Irish people entering. The Dublin Marathon may not be the largest marathon but it has gained a reputation for being the best value marathon in Europe. Each runner receives a T-shirt and goody bag.
On the morning of the marathon there is a breakfast run that has grown from 150 people to 1,200 in 2015. Following the breakfast run participants receive a second t-shirt and breakfast.
